Welcome to My Garden

Or.. what will, hopefully, soon be one!

It’s that time of year.  Time to get the garden ready to be planted.

I’m in a new house this year with a yard that has never had a garden.  My first job is to pick the perfect spot for a vegetable garden!  Next, till the soil and add the mulch, nutrients, etc. that will help to make things grow.

This will be my first experience with gardening and I’m excited, but a bit overwhelmed.  The amount I don’t know about gardening is embarrassing..

So, I’m asking for help.  As I post my efforts and my questions here, I hope you’ll be quick to jump in with advice.

Thanking you in advance!

  1. Hey garden lady,
I will til your garden for free and I will plant the veggies for food! Can’t wait to get started! We are going to the garden supply store this weekend to start our gardening experience. Check out this website http://www.gardenguides.com

It didn’t take you any time at all to set this up! I am SO impressed. I hope you get lots of helpful comments!

I think peas now, beans later. . .spinach now.

Definitely digging out your garden space now and adding compost if you can get ahold of any. If your farmers’ market stays open in the winter, someone may have rabbit or llama dung–makes a great fertilizer that doesn’t burn. And put lots of peat where you are planting lavender (but that planting will be later).

  5. Rabbit dung? You mean, all those tiny little pellets? I am laughing out loud. I can’t wait.

Karen – Get a Blum’s Almanac – my grandfather, father and brother used it for years! Let me know when your crops come in this summer and I’ll share my recipes for home-canned pickles, salsa, etc.! Laura
